Summary

"A powerful and penetrating exploration of what separates great companies and great leaders from the rest。"
-Polly LaBarre, coauthor of Mavericks at Work
Why are some people and organizations more innovative, more influential, and more profitable than others? Why do some command greater loyalty?

In studying the leaders who've had the greatest influence in the world, Simon Sinek discovered that they all think, act, and communicate in the exact same way-and it's the complete opposite of what everyone else does。 People like Martin Luther King Jr。, Steve Jobs, and the Wright Brothers might have little in common, but they all started with why。

Drawing on a wide range of real-life stories, Sinek weaves together a clear vision of what it truly takes to lead and inspire。

This books was supposed to be highly impactful in the sphere of leadership and business like Viktor Frankl’s “Man's Search for Meaning” for those who search for the meaning and purpose of their life because both books discuss on “Why ?”。 A beautiful concept which was meant to be discussed in a blog or an article or which was supposed to be delivered as a Ted Talk lost its charm with tons of example of same individuals and entities and you feel like, after few pages you feel uninterested to read This books was supposed to be highly impactful in the sphere of leadership and business like Viktor Frankl’s “Man's Search for Meaning” for those who search for the meaning and purpose of their life because both books discuss on “Why ?”。 A beautiful concept which was meant to be discussed in a blog or an article or which was supposed to be delivered as a Ted Talk lost its charm with tons of example of same individuals and entities and you feel like, after few pages you feel uninterested to read and feel you are being forced to take this examples。 A boring book …。 Go for 10 mins Ted Talk。 。。。more

A friend gave me an idea about this WHY。。 and he said, i don’t need to read the book but to watch the tedtalk instead。 Well, he is right anyway。。 although i got some key takeaways from the book, some detail here and there。。 i still recommend to watch his tedtalk too。 Also, i expect there might be some steps i could follow。 But instead, he creates another book for it。 I’ll add it to my shelves。

Your WhyThere are few books that come along and fundamentally change the way I think about leadership and purpose, this is one of them。 If you read no other book about leadership and more importantly about discovering your passion, your WHY, this is it。I have had this book on my shelve for some time now。 I was intrigued by the title and some of the the reviews but never really thought much beyond that。 Wow was I late to the party。 I wish I had read this the day I picked it up。Leaders, companies, Your WhyThere are few books that come along and fundamentally change the way I think about leadership and purpose, this is one of them。 If you read no other book about leadership and more importantly about discovering your passion, your WHY, this is it。I have had this book on my shelve for some time now。 I was intrigued by the title and some of the the reviews but never really thought much beyond that。 Wow was I late to the party。 I wish I had read this the day I picked it up。Leaders, companies, an individual’s success, simply put, rest on their WHY。。。Before reading this book, I never knew why the mojo was gone, now I know, the Split, I am it and like the author, didn’t know what it was, now I do。 Read the book to see what I am talking about。 You will not be disappointed。 It will change you, certainly did change me。 。。。more

Start with (Apple) is a book with a very inspiring theme behind it。 The idea of forgetting your ‘why’ because you’re so focused on how and what is one I’ve heard before, but Sinek does a good job inspiring leaders to remember the importance of why。 The emphasis on your customers knowing your why was a good one。 3 stars because the book was very repetitive。 By about halfway through the book, only two things were left to be read: 1。 A tiring litany of case study after case study, and 2。 points he’ Start with (Apple) is a book with a very inspiring theme behind it。 The idea of forgetting your ‘why’ because you’re so focused on how and what is one I’ve heard before, but Sinek does a good job inspiring leaders to remember the importance of why。 The emphasis on your customers knowing your why was a good one。 3 stars because the book was very repetitive。 By about halfway through the book, only two things were left to be read: 1。 A tiring litany of case study after case study, and 2。 points he’d already made, but stated in a new way。 Also, the book was very repetitive, so 3 stars。 。。。more

If you really enjoyed his famous TED talk, you'll enjoy this book -- that's basically all this book is。 Unfortunately, it doesn't add much in the way of examples and the hardline focus on Apple products doesn't age well, in my opinion。 If you really enjoyed his famous TED talk, you'll enjoy this book -- that's basically all this book is。 Unfortunately, it doesn't add much in the way of examples and the hardline focus on Apple products doesn't age well, in my opinion。 。。。more

Great book with a different yet interesting perspective regarding companies' purpose, why they do things,s and why the 'why' matters。 Would have loved more examples of companies with the 'why' but without 'how' that failed。 Great book with a different yet interesting perspective regarding companies' purpose, why they do things,s and why the 'why' matters。 Would have loved more examples of companies with the 'why' but without 'how' that failed。 。。。more

Gayle Johnson

I think watching the TedTalk would have been sufficient。

Jimmy Schiemann

The concept itself of starting with WHY is enlightening。 The examples perhaps a bit repetitive (we get it, Apple is revolutionary)。

3。5*Kể chuyện nhiều quá。 Nghe được 4 chương đầu thì nhận ra mình đã biết những kiến thức này trong một khoá học từng biên tập :)

Liesl Baart

A good book, Simon Sink definitely achieves his goal of inspiring。 There is a lot of interesting information in the book。 Lots of great anecdotal stories。 A little repetitive at times but i think this may be intentional as repetition can drive home important points。 I wish there was a bit more about how to practically apply the concept, especially as a very small business owner and not a large corporation (and never will be which is fine!)。

It took me a year to finish this book。 This book was soo repetitive that I think that it could have been condensed into one article or blog post。 Additionally, the author states how companies have used the "start with why" method to achieve success, but it seems as if he is trying to make examples of the companies, but it doesn't prove that is the "why" of their success (no pun intended)。Too many Apple references。 I just really did not enjoy this book。 If you can get through a whole book trying It took me a year to finish this book。 This book was soo repetitive that I think that it could have been condensed into one article or blog post。 Additionally, the author states how companies have used the "start with why" method to achieve success, but it seems as if he is trying to make examples of the companies, but it doesn't prove that is the "why" of their success (no pun intended)。Too many Apple references。 I just really did not enjoy this book。 If you can get through a whole book trying to fit the author's narrative and too many examples, then go ahead, read it。 Otherwise, just read a summary。 。。。more

I thought I was going to absolutely hate this book and was convinced that finishing it was going to be a nightmare。 The author expressed some extreme worship for Apple and I thought he was just a serious fanboy, but after reading more of the arguments, I realized that was precisely the point!Philosophically I might not agree with Apple, but enough people do that it can exist in a very strong insulated bubble of freedom from reproach。 It is interesting because I subscribed very strongly to the ca I thought I was going to absolutely hate this book and was convinced that finishing it was going to be a nightmare。 The author expressed some extreme worship for Apple and I thought he was just a serious fanboy, but after reading more of the arguments, I realized that was precisely the point!Philosophically I might not agree with Apple, but enough people do that it can exist in a very strong insulated bubble of freedom from reproach。 It is interesting because I subscribed very strongly to the camp that believed that Apple is only a company of really good marketing, but after reading this I do have the perspective that they have a very authentic approach that is of course marketing heavy, but is trying to achieve something innovative at every step。 I still don't agree with the style but I appreciate it as complexly well done。I have a strong disagreement about the discussion of the golden ratio and golden circle。 The circle is a fine analogy and it is wielded well in the book but the golden ratio has nothing to do with it。 That ratio is a peculiarity of numbers while the golden circle is just a metaphor。 In addition to that, the belief that this is all rooted in some evolutionary biology is an extreme over extension of logic。 It is true that psychologically feeling good can control buying behavior that doesn't mean that it should! We should be encouraging people to use more rationality in their decision making, not less。My biggest disagreement has to do with obscene cherry picking。 To select successful people and companies that applied this philosophy and not present any data, is suggestive that the data would not be compelling。 I have no doubt that the philosophy is really life affirming and sometimes very effective but I am also convinced that failure lies at the end of that road more often then it leads to success。 That being said, I liked the book and the idea very much because of the life affirming psychological aspect of the philosophy。 。。。more

Nowadays, all kinds of presentations show the golden circle and quote "Start with why"。 This is usually as far as it goes。 I even doubt whether all these presenters have read the book。 Finally, I know what it is really about。 The book provided answers to many of my unanswered questions。 I now have a better idea of why some things I did in the past did not work and others did。 The why was certainly not always in line with the what and the how。 Sometimes it's good to be reminded of things you subc Nowadays, all kinds of presentations show the golden circle and quote "Start with why"。 This is usually as far as it goes。 I even doubt whether all these presenters have read the book。 Finally, I know what it is really about。 The book provided answers to many of my unanswered questions。 I now have a better idea of why some things I did in the past did not work and others did。 The why was certainly not always in line with the what and the how。 Sometimes it's good to be reminded of things you subconsciously already knew, but for some reason forgot along the way。 This book does just that。 。。。more

The concept was promising but there was so much repetition that it deflated the power of the message。 It seems like the idea wasn't robust enough to warrant an entire book。 There were a few nuggets or wisdom but I will not be pursuing any further titles from this author。 The concept was promising but there was so much repetition that it deflated the power of the message。 It seems like the idea wasn't robust enough to warrant an entire book。 There were a few nuggets or wisdom but I will not be pursuing any further titles from this author。 。。。more

Similar to Good Strategy Bad Strategy in concept。 That one resonated with me more in most ways。

In short, it’s an incredibly powerful but simple concept。 Although it well explained, it was way too unnecessarily long and a lot of parts were too repetitive。 The story of Apple was used numerous times in the exact same ways over and over again。 What was a 200+ page book could have definitely been written in 100 pages or less。 The TED talk will definitely suffice for most, I would only recommend this to those who want more context。 I will say that the last chapter is short and inspiring。

Rafaela Sarissa Rodrigues

Start with WhyNice book , but the way he has written didn’t capture my attention。 The content and golden circle make a lot of sense to me, but the book could be more straightforward。
